Just received one question from my clients who was a lighting manufacturer asked
‘’If i use breathable gland , then is it ok then I do not use ventilation plug?’’
Do you have such questions: what is the difference between a ventilation plug and a breathable cable gland?
Both of ventilation plug and breathable cable gland have the ability to respond to the threat of complex and outdoor environment that are constantly changing, sudden and frequent pressure goes up and down.
In application, using ventilation plug and breathable cable gland to enable quick pressure equalization for outdoor lighting and ensure a dry casing for long service life of lamps.
You can find that the ventilation plug and breathable cable gland both use a ePTFE membrane in their internal structure.
What is an ePTFE membrane?
An ePTFE membrane is created when PTFE — a linear polymer consisting of fluorine and carbon molecules – is expanded, creating a microporous structure with very desirable characteristics, with natural hydrophobicity, uniformed pore size, high porosity, good air permeability, and high chemical corrosion resistance.
What’s the difference?
Jixiang ventilation plug and breathable cable gland breathable effect, avoid condensation and reach IP68 protection.
The ventilation plug can breathe better than breathable cable gland, airflow ≥1.2L/min/cm²@70mbar, but can’t clamp the cable at the same time.
Using a ventilation plug or breathable cable gland , it depending on where you install it.
Only using breathable cable gland is OK for general outdoor use. But the ventilation plug is recommended for more bad conditions.
For example, It is recommended to use a breathable cable gland as well as a ventilation plug for High – power floodlights, due to there not just the cable connection that will bear the heat generated by the high power, but so will the entire shell.

Waterproof connectors join electrical devices in wet environments by forming an extremely tight seal. These wet environments can include humidity, rain, snow, saltwater, and pressurized water used for purposes such as cleaning. T type 3 way waterproof connector is a new type of connector, which can meet more needs than straight waterproof connectors in electrical […]
What is a breathable cable gland, and how is it different from a regular cable gland? A breathable cable gland is designed with a vent or venting system that allows air to circulate both into and out of the enclosure, while still providing a secure seal for the cable. This helps to equalize pressure and […]
Compared with indoor dry environment, making waterproof electrical connections in a wet environment is a lot harder (and more expensive) than it looks. IP68 warterproof connectors also known as IP68 waterproof junction box, could be the perfect soulution. IP68 warterproof connectors good for low voltage, are use in the associated cabling for domestic and commercial […]
