Traditional practices for celebrating The Dragon Boat Festival include:
Eat Zongzi – Zongzi is made of sticky rice with various fillings such as bean paste, jujube, and pork belly, wrapped in bamboo leaves in a pyramid shape and steamed. Eating zongzi has become a way for Chinese people to express their homage to Qu Yuan’s spirit and it’s time for family reunion.
Attending Dragon Boat Races – It is an essential part of the celebration. It is meant to drive away evil energy and invite clean energy into your body. The core is the spirit of hard work and solidarity.
Hanging mugwort leaves – a Chinese herbal medicine, on the front door to to protect the household from illness and evil spirits. Indeed, it’s been found that insects are repelled by mugwort and calamus plants.
